1
First chin = the indicator
Everything before the first chin is decoy. The very next touch after that chin is the actual call.
2
Lock the call. Ignore everything after.
Once you've read chin + the next touch, lock it in. Extra chins, more touches — all decoys. Only the swipe can change it.
3
Swipe is dominant. Permanently.
If I swipe my hand across my chest at any point in the sequence, the whole thing is dead. A chin after the swipe does NOT restart it. Swipe wins.
4
Obvious signs skip the chin
Take (arm held out, palm down) and swing away (fists pounding) are given openly. No indicator. They're meant to be seen.
5
Every pitch is a new sequence
After every pitch, the hitter steps out and looks at me for new signs. Runners stay ON the bag, eyes on me, until they have the signs. Nobody moves until everybody's in congruence. The new sign could be the same as last time or completely different — assume nothing.
THE STANDARD
Eyes on coach. Every pitch. No exceptions.
🏏
Hitter routine
01
Pitch ends. Don't stay in the box assuming.
02
Step out with the back foot.
03
Look at me. Read the full sequence. Don't guess — wait for the whole thing.
04
Confirm the call in your head, then get back in the box.
🏃
Runner routine
01
Pitch ends. Get back to the bag.
02
Foot on the base. Eyes locked on me.
03
Do NOT take a lead until you have the signs. If you lead off early, you're guessing — and you'll get picked.
04
Once you've read the signs, take your lead with the play in mind.
!
Why congruence matters
If the hitter sees "hit and run" but the runner missed it, the runner gets thrown out at second on a routine grounder. If the runner sees "steal" but the hitter missed it, he's swinging at a pitchout. Every player has to be on the same page before the pitch starts.
